Greeting from Reverend Charles R. Lyles, Bishop
Bishop Charle R. Lyles, at an early age his mother recognized his desire to play the piano. He started his first formal training at four years old. Rev. Lyles progressed quickly and began composing his own songs. At 12 years old, he became part of a small band called the "Star dusters" who later changed their name to "The Charles Lyles Trio". He moved along in his musical career and became the organist for a jazz band until he was 16 years old. Though Rev. Lyles' music was performed in nightclubs and cabarets, he was always in the church. After being convicted by the word of God and giving his life over, playing in the nightspots was not an interest to Rev. Lyles anymore. He just wanted to play for the promotion of Jesus Christ. A letter was sent to Rev. Lyles from the John Howard Gospel Caravan, asking him to join this musical aggregation as Musical Director. He accepted and since 1968, has remained in that position.
Rev. Lyles and the Caravan have traveled nationally and internationally, declaring war against Satan through gospel music. McDonald's First Gospel Festival was held in 1985 in the city of Philadelphia, Pa. This was one of the choir's first great achievements when they brought home first prize, which was a brand new van. Since then, Rev. Charles Lyles has made many accomplishments in his life, such as numerous recordings with Savoy Records, Sweet Rain Records, Nashboro Records and appearances on the Gospel Music Workshop of America's Men Of Promise recording projects.
Rev. Charles Lyles has had the opportunity of being one of the musicians and background singers for the late Reverend Isaac Douglas. He has performed with the late Reverend James Cleveland and ministered with some of gospel music's greatest artists such as: Pastor Shirley Caesar, Vickie Winans, Pastor John P. Kee, Kirk Franklin and The Family, Pastor Hezekiah Walker, The Winans, Pastor Daryl Coley, Dottie Peoples, Pastor Richard "Mr. Clean" White, Pastor Walter Hawkins, Bishop Ronald F. Brown (Having Old Fashion Church), Evangelist Dorothy Norwood, Bobby Jones, Bishop T.D. Jakes and many, many more.
Rev. Charles Lyles has sung and played in 65 cities in Germany, 40 cities in France, three cities in Switzerland, three cities in Austria, three cities in Holland and London, England. In 1981, the Lord called Rev. Lyles to begin a ministry for the rejected, down trodden, confused and distressed of the vicinity in which he resides. Thus Victory Deliverance Temple was born and has become one of Atlantic City's most talked about ministries on the move, reaching out to whomsoever will through a Monday through Friday feeding the hungry program touching approximately 1,500 souls each week. He is proud to be the husband to his lovely wife, Evangelist Diana L. Lyles and the father of six wonderful children. Rev. Charles Lyles' greatest joy is when he can give of himself through the gifts bestowed upon him from God Almighty and knowing that he has made a difference in someone's life.
